If you asked me where my favourite place to be is... besides my home surrounded by my personal comforts... I would say here, at the Summach Family Cabin in Saskatchewan. This beautiful home is not your average cabin, it is hearty, warm, and full of so many memories... my own but also of Landons and his whole extended family.
I've been coming here for around 3 years. Landon has taken me fishing, boating, drift-wood hunting, and kayaking here. He taught me how to use a bow and arrow and we raced rubber-duckies down a creek. I've sunned in the hammock, read many books, wrote, watched Ella run back and forth on the dock, did acro in the backyard, taught Ella to swim(ish) and watched more sunsets than I could ever count. I learnt and played more board games than I ever thought was possible, watched Rider games and movies with his aunts and cousins. I've listened to the rain hit the lake, gone swimming, floated, and searched for the sunken VW beetle. I've jumped off the boat to go swimming, surfed, and watched landon land flips while wake-boarding.
But mostly this is the place where I have learnt what it is to have a close family. It's the place where I looked forward to hearing the coffee grinder early in the morning and looked less forward to seeing the evening starlight come at night. I never wanted a day to end and leaving was always the hardest. This is the place that has enriched my life more than anywhere else. It has quickly become my favourite place because of the people who share it and what they have taught me. I love how noisy that cabin can get. I love hearing his aunts and mom laughing while playing scrabble, the uncles chatting in the living room, and the cousins playing "donkey" in the front yard. I'm so lucky that these people and this cabin feels like my home away from home. I can't wait for Landon and I to start our own family and to share with them the magic of this place and let it enrich theirs as well. To have so many firsts and for them to fall in love with all of these things and to fill this home with even more memories.
